Superior OMMS Orchestra Mon 5/14/12 – Congratulations to the 7th/8th Grade Orchestra for earning the highest rating of Superior from all four judges at the Maryland State Orchestra Festival held at Anne Arundel Community College!
Healthy Howard Recognizes OMMS Fri 4/27/12 – Healthy Howard recognized OMMS as a gold recipient
for our innovative programs and school initiatives that revolve around living a healthy lifestyle. OMMS has implemented student programs such as Ravens Play 60, and included community initiatives that have reflected our school's focus to enhance our ability to lead healthy lives. Way to go, OMMS!
Eighth Graders Take on the Bard Thurs 4/12/12 – A cast of our talented 8th graders participated in the Howard County Shakespeare Festival! Congratulations to Amarachi, Andrew, Anna, Ava, Brittany, Dania, Daniel, Edwin, Eileen, Esther, Heidi, Ike, Isaac, Joseph, Macklin, Margot, Megan, Stuti, and Timothy (all 2012), who
delivered a modified version of Much Ado About Nothing with an outstanding performance!
Rosa & Pilar Lead Book Discussion Weds 4/11/12 – OMMS students Rosa and Pilar (both 2013) led the monthly student book club discussion at Barnes & Noble. They created questions and facilitated a discussion on the book A Long Walk to Water by Sue Park. Any students interested in reading can join the OMMS Book Club by signing up with Ms. Saunderson, GT Resource Teacher. This month the group will be reading the book Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer.
Debate Team Wins Thurs 3/29/12 – The OMMS Debate team won their matchup at the county debate! They presented arguments logically and persuasively, and their sportsmanship was noted by both judges. Congratulations to the entire debate team on a successful year. Members that assisted with the spring debate are Ema, Anna, Ariel,
Ava, Dania, and Amarachi (all 2012), and Gavin, Divya, Annabelle, Nick, Kayla, Marissa, and Jack (2013). If any student is interested in developing their research skills, persuasive writing and public speaking, then see Ms. Saunderson about joining next year's Debate Team.
Christine Takes First Place at Baltimore Science Fair Sun 3/25/12 – OMMS student Christine (2012) won first place at the Baltimore Science Fair! She presented her science research on the use of beet juice as a natural road deicer, and its effect on grass surrounding the roads. By winning the Baltimore Science Fair,
she is now eligible to compete at the national level. Congratulations Christine!
C.C. Performs with Regional Ensemble Sat 3/24/12 – OMMS student C.C. (2013) performed with the Regional Repertory Wind Ensemble at River Hill HS. This wind ensemble consisted of outstanding middle and high school musicians from Howard County and surrounding areas. Congratulations to C.C.! She represented OMMS
with great pride and musical achievement during the audition process, rehearsals, and performance.
Ava Wins STEM Fair Award Sat 2/25/12 – OMMS student Ava (2012) was awarded the 2012 "Runner Up" trophy in the Animal Biology category at the Howard County STEM Fair (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for her project entitled "The Effect of Temperature on the Regeneration Rate of Planarian." Congratulations!
Talaeya Speaks at Board Meeting Thurs 1/26/12 – Congratulations to OMMS student Talaeya (2013) who spoke at the Board of Education with other School Girls Unite members from Hammond and Harper's Choice Middle Schools. The girls provided an update about how SGU members here in Howard County were instrumental in helping the United Nations declare
October 11 as The Day of the Girl Child.
