Visitor/Volunteer/Observer Information

Thu, 08/22/2019 - 8:42am

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Oakland Mills Middle School!  We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and staff.

According to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete two brief on-line powerpoint presentations: "MD State Law & HCPSS Policy 1030" and "Parent Volunteers and Confidentiality."  Please complete these courses before registering to volunteer. The courses take about five minutes each to complete.  After completion of the courses, please print, sign, and return both certificates to the school office.  For your convenience the links are provided below.

Volunteer/Observer COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements

Effective Monday, Oct. 25, these individuals will be required to show proof of full vaccination at least five school days in advance:

  • Volunteers and chaperones who interact with students, and parents/guardians who are conducting classroom observations
  • Current HCPSS students will not be permitted to visit a school that is not their own during the school day for field trips and volunteer opportunities. However, HCPSS students going to another school as part of their academic schedule, including students who go to ARL or another school for academic requirements, would not be required to provide proof of vaccination.
  • Professional individuals or groups who come into the school during the school day to provide enhancements and support to instruction such as musical performers and guest speakers.

Volunteers must be masked regardless of their vaccination status. Volunteers may be able to access the free weekly testing offered within school and office buildings, subject to availability of tests. Volunteers should perform a COVID-19 health check every day before coming to an HCPSS building and should stay home if they are experiencing any symptom(s) associated with any communicable disease.

Your participation in this process helps make Howard County Public Schools a safer place to learn.  We look forward to seeing you!
