Talking to Children About Violence

Thu, 10/05/2017 - 1:20pm

The horrific shooting that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, resulting in 59 deaths and over 500 injuries has profoundly impacted all of us.  Understandably our children have had questions and some will require support. It is important that adults are comfortable facilitating conversations when our students want to discuss such serious matters.   Attached you will find Talking to Children About Violence:  Tips for Parents and Teachers, a user-friendly resource from the National Association of School Psychologists that may be beneficial to your staff and parents.  The attached resources have been translated into Spanish and Korean, but are also available by request in Vietnamese, French, Amharic, Chinese, Portuguese, Somali, Arabic and Kurdish.

If you have questions regarding the resources, please contact Cindi Schulmeyer, Coordinator of School Psychology, Section 504 and Instructional Intervention via email at Cynthia_schulmeyer@hcpss.org or at 410-313-7021.
