Karen Saunderson, GT Education Resource Teacher

for specific information about program offerings, calendars and student resources.

Content Classes
G/T  English, Science and Social Studies provide a differentiated curriculum that extends and enriches the curriculum.  G/T Mathematics is an accelerated curriculum (2 grade levels above).

Middle School Research Class
This class is offered to 6th grade students who participate in G/T content area classes during the 2nd and 3rd marking periods in place of one related arts class.  Students receive instruction in advanced level research skills that they apply in their G/T classes.  Students conduct an original research investigation in a self-selected topic.  Students may sign-up for the class with the recommendation of 5th grade teachers and permission of parents.  Research class students may access assignments and grades.

G/T Testing and Placement
Students who are new to Howard County may request testing when enrolling.  An open nomination period for student who are currently in 6th and 7th grades will take place in January/February.  Additional information will be posted here and in the school newsletter. Contact Ms. Saunderson for additional information or if you have questions.

The G/T Enrichment Program
All students are welcome to participate in the G/T Enrichment Program offerings if they have the time, interest and task commitment.  Most seminars require applications which are available in the Enrichment Room.  Contact Ms. Saunderson for additional information.

Instructional Seminars and Opportunities
Instructional seminars are designed to extend students’ interests and skills and usually held during CORE or on a rotating basis weekly or monthly.  The G/T Resource Teacher  (sometimes with another teacher) provides advanced-level instruction in the areas of written, oral or visual communication, or research and technology skills.
Some seminars that are offered at various times during  the year are:
TV Production, Book Club, Debate Team, Math Olympiad, Black Saga, National Geography Bee, Newspaper, Film Production, School Archive and Multicultural Club.
Motivated students can investigate topics of interest in depth or try to solve problems with original solutions.  Students are compacted out of other classes to work on their investigations with Ms. Saunderson.
